Blue Blocking Light Glasses - Available at Target Stores

Blue light may affect the body's circadian rhythm or our natural waking and sleep cycle. Avoiding screen time two to three hours before bedtime is the best approach to reducing sleep disturbance. Some eyeglass manufacturers promise to help reduce eye strain with special lenses designed to filter out blue light from smartphones, tablets and computer screens.

Talk to your optometrist: if you wear prescription glasses, you can often add blue light blocking technology to upgrade your prescription lenses!

Tips to Protect from Eye Strain

  • Keep an arm's length distance (about 25 inches) between your eyes and your computer screen. 
  • Adjust screens and monitors so that your gaze is slightly downward. 
  • Take frequent breaks from screens: shift your gaze or look away from the screen to an item at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes. 
  • Use artificial tears if your eyes are dry. 
  • Increase the contrast on your screen or monitor by adjusting the lighting in your environment. 
  • Apply a matte screen filter to your computer monitor.
  • If you wear contacts, give your eyes a rest by wearing glasses.

Exposure to the right type of light can help regulate these rhythms, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
