WHAT IS COMPOUNDING?
Pharmacy compounding is the process of preparing custom medications for an individual patient’s needs. Compounding pharmacists work closely with physicians and patients to determine the most appropriate therapies and to adjust the strengths and doses of a medication to support the conditions being treated.
Compounding is an essential service in healthcare, especially among patients for whom commercially-available medications are not as effective. Compounded preparations include sterile (intended for the eye, or injections into the body or blood) and non-sterile (ointments, creams, liquids, and capsules).
