Important USP changes — what you need to know

Some important updates regarding quality standards and changes to the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards are coming that may impact your practice.

To give some background, pharmacies in the Revelation Pharma Network follow standard operating procedures that are built around processes developed by USP. While USP is not a regulatory agency and does not carry the force of law, many state boards of pharmacy as well as the FDA recognize USP’s compounding standards as the measure of quality assurance that a compounding pharmacy should follow.

On November 1, 2023, new editions of USP chapters pertaining to nonsterile, sterile, and hazardous drug compounding will become compendially applicable, meaning that they are the most current versions and regulatory agencies may choose to adopt them.

IV nutrient therapy picks up where a normal diet leaves off

Quoth one of the study’s authors:

“We found that the highest levels of tau, a protein involved in Alzheimer’s disease, were only observed in hormone therapy users who reported a long delay between age at menopause onset and their initiation of hormone therapy.”

Said another, a bit more bluntly, “When it comes to hormone therapy, timing is everything.”

Mayo Clinic review finds LDN can help with fibromyalgia

A new study out of the Mayo Clinic (with a partner in South Korea) found that low-dose naltrexone seems both to work just great for combating the symptoms of fibromyalgia. It was already used off-label for that purpose, but the authors wanted to add a dose of science — to “systematically assess the current evidence.”

Voila! In looking at the studies out there, they found that LDN helped manage the symptoms of fibromyalgia with “no severe adverse events were reported.”
