Rachel Simmons, CSPT
Stanley Specialty Pharmacy, Charlotte, N.C.
What is your current role and how long have you been in it?
I started working for Stanley Specialty Pharmacy in September 2012. So, this year will make 12 years. I am currently serving as General Manager.
I started at Stanley as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the compounding lab. I attended my first sterile compounding training course in 2014 and began working in the cleanroom. I was promoted to Lab Supervisor in 2016, attended my second sterile compounding course in 2017, received my Certified Sterile Pharmacy Technician license in 2018, and was then promoted to General Manager in 2020.
Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
My Dad was my biggest supporter. He always encouraged me to go after everything I've ever wanted in life. I've been fortunate enough over the years to have several amazing friends and mentors who have supported my personal and professional growth as well.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In March 2023 Stanley became part of Revelation Pharma, a national network of 503A and 503B compounding pharmacies. Since this time I have had the opportunity to meet and work along side many talented individuals company wide and my eyes have been opened to a whole new world of career opportunities. In the next 5 years, I hope to work in the corporate space and learn more about various operations of the company.
What advice would you give to someone who has just started their career?
Stay humble, work hard, be kind, and never give up.
How do you motivate yourself at work?
I am extremely hard on myself, in a good way. I push myself constantly and I am always trying to "one up" myself. I like to work in challenging and even uncomfortable situations to continue improving my personal and professional growth.
Which accomplishments/achievements are you most proud of?
I am most proud of working my way up to my current role as General Manager with Stanley Specialty Pharmacy. As a pharmacy technician, certain opportunities of growth and leadership can be hard to obtain.
What is your superpower?
One thing I am grateful for is a photographic memory. I can read or look at something one time and the information sticks with me. I can also say I am really good at tuning things and people out. That is a blessing and a curse, but sometimes you just have to!
Tell me your personal interests when not working.
I spend all of my free time with my boyfriend. We like to walk at the park, try new restaurants, relax on the couch with a good movie or tv series. I have a 5 year old pitt-mix as well so snuggling with him is a must.
